God Made You Nose to Toes by Leslie Parrott~A ZonderKidz Review

20161220_213721 God Made You Nose to Toes is a chunky board book written by Leslie Parrott and illustrated by Estelle Corke. As I was reading the book I was reminded of the Bible verse Jerimiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hop and a future.”
This adorably illustrated board book reminds us of how God made our entire body as he wanted each of us to be.  He gave us our eyes to see the beautiful stars 20161220_213734he created for us, a mouth to laugh at the funny animals he created for us and ears to hear the beautiful sound, for examples.  A great addition to any little ones library!

As you read thru the vividly illustrated pages the story talks about different types of silly hugs:  a creepy crawly hug like one of a caterpillar, a webbed feet feathered seat like20161220_213609 a duck hug, or a wet and drippy-slimy slippy fish hug.  Who has ever heard of a fish hug? I am not quite sure what that would look like, but I love it in the story!  Being the mom to 4 blessings, I feel that this book is an excellent book to have some silly and fun bonding time with your child.

The Essential Bodybuilding Cookbook:150 Healthy, Simple and Delicious Bodybuilding Recipes to Meet Your Every Need~A Tomoson Review

You hear all the time that people want to get healthy/loose weight/build muscle and the food part of the equations is the hardest.  I used to think that body builders could eat just what ever they wanted.  It didn’t matter if they ate donuts for breakfast or what.  I knew they needed a lot of calories and didn’t think it mattered really where they came from.  I found out that this is not the case.  It doesn’t matter if you are trying to bulk up or slim down, for most people the key along with exercise is what they eat.  You need to keep an eye on the quality of food as well as the quantity, and it is just as important for those bulking up!

With the Essential Bodybuilding Cookbook you are getting a great head start!  The book is filled with 150 recipes and would be a great addition to your cookbook library.  Not just a cookbook?   What else does it feature:
Diet and Nutrition~Talking about calories, proteins, carbs and more
Muscle Starts in the Kitchen~Grocery lists and cooking/meal prep
Eating to Build Muscle~Why you can’t gain weight, caloric needs and more
Eating to Burn Fat~why people can’t loose weight, calorie intake and fat burning
Pre and post work out nutrition~why fuel your body before and after workouts
and of course the 150 recipes!
The recipes are divided into Shakes, drinks and desserts~Sides, salads and snacks~Soups~Seafood~Vegetarian and Vegan~Meat~Poultry~Breakfast.  Each recipe has the nutritional info at the bottom so you can easily keep track of your intake for the day.

Overall I really like this book!  I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking for quick and healthy recipes to help them on their building journey!

You can get your copy of the book by going to Amazon.  The kindle edition is only 99 cents!  If your prefer they have a book format that also is available for 13.38.     #carrillopress

So just because the recipes are healthy for your body, are they tasty?  I made a few of the recipes for my family.
20160917_110232[1]          This is the workout waffle
It uses oats and protein powder in the ingredients.  I have to say that the recipe was very simple to make and surprisingly looked like a waffle!   I think that protein powder has a distinct taste.  When I first started to drink protein powder I had to get used to the taste.  These waffles you could definitely tell had the powder it them.   I loved how easy they were to make and I thought they had a great flavor.  The recipe said to bake for 10 minutes.  I always follow the recipes exactly as they are written the first time I make them. The next time I will cook this one for less time as it was a bit dry.  Overall, I will make again.
                                              Barbell Beef Curry           20160917_201408[1]
We do not eat a lot of beef in our menu.  We prefer chicken and fish (or no meat at all for me!)  I make chili, meatballs and tacos with beef but that is pretty much it.  There will be an occasional steak here and there but our monthly menu consists mainly of the chicken and beef.  SO I thought I would give this recipe a try with the cute name.  Barbell Beef Curry for the Barbell weightlifter!  This recipe gives you the option of placing it in the crock pot and well I jumped on that wagon you  bet!  I love my slow cooker!    The only complaint with this recipe was that the curry was a bit overpowering for my men.  They love spicy foods, however this wasn’t their favorite spice. It wasn’t overall a spicy dish either.  The meat was tender and the overall flavor was nice, just a bit over curried.  Next time I would try about half of the recipe.
    20160917_195144[1]                                                  Latin Rice
You know the song, This One’s for the Girls? Well this recipe was for me!  Not eating meat makes finding new recipes difficult at times.  This Latin rice is super easy to make and very delicious.  I did have to use green peppers in stead of red that the recipe called for because I just used me last red one last night! I know it would be better appealing to the eye, had I used the red.  The recipe is brown rice, black beans, onions, peppers and cilantro.  That is it!  It is very tasty and would make a great addition to any meal!
                                                     Beef Chili Con Carne                               20160912_170940[1]
First off, let me apologize for this picture.  The picture doesn’t do justice to the dish!  As I said previously we don’t eat a lot of beef so I wanted to definitely give these a try.  This recipe was super easy and I wonder if you could make it with the meatless ground beef. I will try that in the near future!  I had to omit the mushrooms and onions as well as the  peppers from one dish at my house due to allergies.  It calls for beef, onion, kidney beans, carrot, bell pepper, mushroom, olive oil, water, chili powder, garlic, cilantro, lime and then rice or quinoa.  Overall, the verdict on this was that it needed a bit more seasoning.

Sundown Naturals B-12 and Melatonin Gummies~A Smiley360 Review

I was so excited when I was chosen to review these Sundown Naturals Supplements from Smiley360!!  When the Smiley box came I immediately opened it and found all the goodies they sent!  It included:

I immediately tried the B-12.  Upon opening the chocolate and coffee

flavored supplements, I was overwhelmed by the smell.  The claim is to have a  coffeehouse experience…  will I think they have mastered that!  These smell super delicious, and taste as great as they smell!  I have to say I was thinking they would be more of a mocha flavor then coffee, however I love them!  Each B-12 supplement serving contains 1500MCG of B-12 which is water soluble, meaning that if you body doesn’t need it it will get rid of it not store it.

That evening about 30 minutes before I went to bed, I tried the Melatonin as well.  I had never taken Melatonin before.  These were strawberry flavored (not my favorite flavor, but still good).  Each serving contains 5 mg of melatonin, a natural occurring hormone in your body that helps to regulate your sleep/wake rhythm.

Both of these have No Gluten, No Wheat, No Milk, No Lactose, No Artificial Flavor, No
Artificial Sweetener, No Preservatives, No Soy, No Yeast, No Fish and are Sodium Free.  The B-12 also contains no starch.  As you can see these are suited for many people!

I would totally recommend the B-12 to anyone looking for some more energy without caffeine.  They taste great and give your the boost you may need to get thru the day.  The Melatonin, I didn’t notice any difference.  They are said to help you sleep or sleep better.  I am not a person who has trouble sleeping.  I didn’t seem more sleepy in the mornings so I guess that is good.  I can’t say that it made me sleep better, I couldn’t tell.  From the site:Melatonin supports sound, quality sleep.* It is an exceptional choice for people experiencing occasional sleeplessness, those with jet lag, or those seeking to improve their quality of rest.*

Bing Rewards~A Smiley360 Review

bing2_product_208x208
I’m all about rewards!  Everyone seems to have a punch or rewards program these days ranging from punch cards giving you a free item once so many are purchased, to accumulating points that you can use for purchasing items.  Who wouldn’t be crazy about free stuff?  The better rewards are those that you don’t have to do a lot for, am I right?  So, how do you choose which ones are worth your time and effort?  I think that is totally an individual preference.  We (my hubby and I), have decided that visa rewards are a plus, (as long as you pay your bill each month), next on our list is Bing Rewards!
What are Bing Rewards?  It is a program by Microsoft.  Using the Bing search engine, you earn credits for searching the web! Yes, you read that correctly!  All you have to do is use Bing when you surf the internet and you will collect credits!
Are there other ways to earn credits?  Of course, there is a daily quiz that you can participate in where you can earn points.  Don’t worry if you don’t know the answers, just look them up on Bing!
You can also earn points by searching on your phone.  Don’t these sound easy?
You have points, now what do you get with them?
Great gifts: Amazon gift cards, a month on Hulu, skype credits and Starbucks cards, just to name a few. Check out the other great rewards here.
Redeeming your points couldn’t be any easier.  You just go to the redemption tab on the dashboard and click on what you want.  It is then emailed to you just like that.  I already used/earned a 5.00 Amazon gift card!  Now I am going to save for a Hulu 1 month membership, I think!
Some of the fine print:  This is open to residents of the United States only, you have to open up a Microsoft account (if you don’t already have one), and you must also be at least 13 years of age.  You can check out all the frequently asked questions here.
My opinion of this program?
I have only been using this for a few weeks.  I have liked it so far.  I think that Chrome and Firefox are a bit faster as far as searching, however I haven’t had any true problems using this and it isn’t a whole lot slower so it is worth the points, I think.  The only real problem that I had was that if for some reason my Microsoft account wasn’t signed in and I didn’t catch it, my counter tells me what I have accumulated but are not eligible for since I wasn’t singed in.  Totally my fault, not the program!   Overall, I think this is a great rewards program!

Wonders of Creation Coloring Book~A Zondervan Review

9780310757399Have you heard the news!  It has been found that parents have stressful lives.  Between our families, jobs, friends and whatever takes up our time either for work or pleasure our plates are full!  It has also been found that coloring reduces stress and anxiety!  Do you like to color?  I LOVE to color.  Every time I think or hear do you want to color, I hear the song “it’s a color, it’s a color and you know I love to color by Joe Wise.  It is a silly song about coloring certain colors when you are feeling ele1a certain way, including puce /pa  use/.  Anyhow, I have lost count on how many crayons, colored pencils, markers (okay I despise markers for coloring so I don’t use them often) or what ever medium you want to use to create art, I have purchased as a parent.  I have also lost count of how many hours I have spent at the table, counter, laying on the floor or even sitting outside just coloring with the kiddos.  Now my daughter is the only one who wants to color outside of the required for school or 4-H.
This Wonders of Creation book is a great book to take outside on that warm sunny day to decompress and color!  Highlighting the animals, plants and wonders of creation reminds us of the amazing world God created for us.
Recommended for anyone who needs some downtime!  You know that it you!  You can check out this book and other great titles from ZonderKidz HERE!

Swimming with Faith:The Missy Franklin Story~ ZonderKidz Review

9780310747079, Swimming with Faith : The Missy Franklin Story, Natalie Davis Miller
Swimming with Faith The Missy Franklin Story was written by Natalie Davis Miller, and tells the story of the Olympic swimmer, Missy Franklin.
Summary from the book:  One of the most talented swimmers in the world today, Missy Franklin has been swimming since she was five year old and hasn’t stopped.  From local summer swim leagues all the way to the Olympics.  Missy has proven over and over that hard work and dedication can make dreams become reality.  But through all of the adventures and challenges that are a part of this determined athlete’s life, Missy has remained true to her heat and faith-making sure that God, family and friends stay top priorities even in the face of the fame and glory that come with achieving goals like Olympic Gold and world records in her beloved swimming.
My thoughts:
This book doesn’t disappoint when talking about the determination and challenges faced by a teenager who is Olympic bound.  You see Missy on her journey, be introduced to God and the church and take the road that God had intended for her and running on it!  She tries to keep herself grounded by staying in her hometown, instead of moving for training, and doing things with her friends as any “normal” teenager would do.  When she is faced with a trying time it is her faith, her friends and family (fans included) that pull her through.  Missy is a great example of finding your path,  giving it your all (110 percent in her words) and being the best you can be.

NKJV Teen Study Bible~A ZonderKids Review

9780310752752  There are several different types of Bibles out there!  Some of them have different features to help you either get into the word or understand the word better. This Teen study bible is a great choice!  Here are some facts about this bible, then I will share my thoughts.
The New King James Version (NKJV) Teen Study Bible is listed as the best selling Bible for Teens.  From the back of the Bible:
As an on-the-go teen, your moving fast.  God is moving faster!  The Teen Study Bible will help you keep in step with all He has done, Is doing, and will do in the world-and in your life.  This bestselling Bible will help you discover the eternal truths of God’s Word and apply them to the issues you face today.
It’s features (still on the back of the book) include:
We Believe-Unpacks the Apostles’ Creed to reveal the biblical foundation of faith.
Panorama-Keeps the big picture of each book of the Bible in view.
4 Full color pages-Presentation page and information about the Apostles’ Creed
Key Indexes-Helps with in-depth Bible study
To the point-reveals what the Bible says about pressing issues
Dear Jordan-Offers biblical advice for teens
Instant Access-Tells what God says to you personally
Q&A-Tests your knowledge of Bible Trivia
Bible Promises-Highlights Bible verses worth remembering
Book Introductions-Provides an overview for each book of the Bible
8 page, full color map section
Complete text of the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Bible
My Thoughts:
This is a sturdy hard cover bible.  I love the explanations through out like the instant access and the to the point sections.  For example in Ecclesiastes 2:1-11 the Instant Access is explaining that Solomon had so much money and power that he got everything that he wanted either by money or power.  The explanation is that they haven’t grown up spiritually and it isn’t the things you have but the kind of person you are that matters.
I think this would make a great Bible for anyone, however I picture it more for our young men as the cover isn’t very girly (it is attractive though).  The Bible can be a bit overwhelming I think to figure out, especially for those who are just getting into it for the first time. I think that it has a lot of information in it for  helping the reader to understand what God really wants out of us and to understand the Bible.

God is Watching Over You by P.J. Lyons

God is Watching Over You is a chunky soft cover board book with cardboard pages, great for little fingers to turn.  Through out the pages of the book you follow a little lamb as the reader is reminded that God is always watching over us.  “I’ll read you books, You’ll say a prayer, Then climb beside your treasured bed.  Bedtime Kisses, right on cue.  God is watching over you.” is one of the pages with gentle reminders that God is always there.
Illustrated by Tim Warnes, the characters all have charismatic demeanor, beautifully illustrated!  This book is a must have for anyone with a child under the age of 5.  Our children are never to  young to be taught about our Father.  This book would be a great gift for a baby shower book or new parents!

PREVIEW: Baby Wren and the Great Gift by Sally Lloyd-Jones A Zonderkidz Review

9780310733898, Baby Wren and the Great Gift, Sally Lloyd-Jones

Each and every one of us has a special talent or gift from God.  Sometimes we know them early on in our lives and sometimes they take a few years to be discovered.  Baby Wren figures out quickly that she can't do the same things as the other animals.
Written by Sally Lloyd-Jones and illustrated by Jen Corace, you follow Baby Wren as the other animals ask her to join them on their adventures, doing what THEY do best.  Kingfisher, for example, invites baby wren to go fishing..which she can't do.  Come swim with us, again she can't swim.  Each time Baby Wren sees another one of God’s beautiful animals she is amazed at what they are doing, yet realizes she can’t for various reason:  she is too small, she can’t swim.
Then Baby Wren finds what her special gift is!  She then shares it with the other animals, just as God wants us to share our talents/gifts with others.     A great message for little ones to hear, that we are all different and bring something with us so to speak.  It takes all of us with all our different gifts,  working together to make it all complete, just as God intended.

Under the Sea Holy Bible ~ Zondervan Review

9780310754046
The Under the Sea Holy Bible is a hard cover, colorful and sparkly Bible.  It is written in the NIrV version so it is easy for young readers to understand.  A great way to get them into the word.
I have to say that I was disappointed that there are not more pictures.  To be themed under the sea, the cover fits perfect!  I felt that there could/should have been more marine life through out the book.  Other than the covers, there are 6 sides (3 pages) that have colorful marine pictures.  My daughter liked the colorful page that had things like: the 10 commandments on it, the A,B,C’s of becoming a Christian and love phrases for kids, for examples.
I love the colorful and hard cover.  I love that it is written in the reader version so that our young ones can get in the to the word and understand what it is about.  I was just a bit disappointed that there were not more of the colorful pages.

That’s Not Hay in my Hair! by Juliette Turner~A ZonderKidz Review

9780310732440, That’s Not Hay in My Hair, Juliette TurnerThat’s Not Hay in my Hair, is a story written by Juliette Turner.  She is a 14 year old who was moved from the big New York City, to her mom’s ranch in Texas.  When the book opens it is the end of the school year in New York and Juliette is going to her end of year party and getting ready for the move,  goodbye’s are always tough.  Once she gets to Texas she has to adjust to living in a new place and a different setting, the ranch versus the city.  I would say the book covers a summer’s span of her life.
The book is an account, in my opinion, of her summer on the ranch:  cows in a ravine and road, stranger popping over in the wee hours to let you know your animals are out, sick animals and newbies just born are all a part of this new lifestyle Juliette has been moved into.  I enjoyed reading about her adventure, however, it wasn’t as exciting as I thought it would have been with the creative title.  Let me explain…I live in a rural area and have experienced a lot of the agriculture mishaps and “adventures” that come with that lifestyle.  Every day on the farm is an adventure when you are raising animals. The experiences that Juliette and her mom experience are all part of the adventure of life on a ranch or farm.
A great story for those who have never experienced farm or ranch life.  I can attest that this is really what life is like when raising animals!

Angels in the Bible Storybook by Allia Zobel Nolan~A ZonderKidz Review

Do you believe in Angels?  How about the ones you see on TV?  Do you think they look “real” or portray what a real angel is like?  I do believe in Angels!  I am not sure what they look like to know if what is portrayed in the media is accurate, however I think that God sends us angels at different times for different reasons to help us on our journey here on earth.
In Allia’s book, Angels in the Bible Story book, she uses concrete evidence from the bible that shows us angels do exist!  Allia pulls from the new and Old Testaments, (15 from each), to show the reader, in an easy to read format, the part angels play in helping us and serving God.  There are many stories in the Bible where Angels are shown as messengers and they are also shown as a "siren" used to warn of bad, like Herod. What a great book to help illustrate the important roles that God’s angles have serving him.

About the author:  Allia Zobel Nolan is an internationally-published author of over 200 children’s titles and adult trade titles. Her books reflect her two main passions, God and cats. Zobel Nolan lives and writes in Connecticut with her husband, Desmond Nolan and their two feline children.

Inspiring Words~30 Verses From The Bible You Can Color

9780310757283.jpg[1]
I do have to say, the first time I saw that adult coloring books were on the market I had mixed feelings.  It struck me as exciting and funny.  I thought why would we need "adult" coloring books.  It isn’t that I don’t like to color, I LOVE it (only not with markers) and I find it very relaxing.  I have always colored with my kids.  I just didn’t really see the need for an adult book.  We don't really have any coloring books any longer here.  When the kids want to color, I look for printable pages.  We go to different websites and look for their favorite characters, like Stawberry Shortcake or Lego Ninjago.  Of course my all time favorite has to be Snoopy, I also love Mickey and the gang, however the possibilities are really endless as to what you can get to color.  When I saw this was for review I was excited to see what they hype was.
For this book, there are 30 bible verses that are decorated with outlines of different shapes and prints that you can color in any way.  Printed on thicker paper, it makes the end product nice and can be used with multiple mediums.  With the heavy pages I don't recommend tearing them out of the book.  They should be cut, I didn’t tear a couple of the pages out of the book straight! Sad smile   The picture that you color outlines or frames the verses, making a nice piece of art that could be framed!  My 10 year old daughter was coloring a page with me.  What a great gift it would make especially to someone who may be in need of hearing the particular verse.
Living in a tech absorbed world this book would make a great gift and a great way to spend some quality time together, with needed a plug!

Emergen C Immune +~A Smiley360 Review

20160216_130150      I am a vitamin/mineral taker.  I believe that vitamins help your body, by no means do they heal, but I believe that they help our bodies fight the every day bugs to keep the yuckies at bay.  Even though my family eats pretty balanced meals every day, we all still take a multivitamin/mineral.  I don’t think it can hurt.  Vitamin C, specifically is also a big one in our house, especially in the winter.  We do not get flu shots and do not miss out on a lot of things because of sickness. We also wash our hands before we eat and every time we come in the house.  With the practices, overall, we are healthy!
So, when I received the chance to review these Emergen-C Chewable dietary supplement,  I was excited!  Chewable supplements make it super easy to take anywhere.  When you open the container you are hit with the Orange Burst flavor!  The chewables are larger than I expected, but don’t worry, their flavor is one of the best tasting supplements I have tried!  This particular supplement has a dosing 20160216_130220of 2 a day.  Perfect for us as I like to split up our supplements and take with different meals so we are not taking a lot at one time.  I think this helps to keep a steady flow in your system.
Emergen-C Immune + is a dietary supplement that helps to support your immune system (or your yuckies fighters).  The "plus" in this formula is there because they have added 600 IU of Vitamin D which will help keep your bones strong as it  helps your body absorb calcium.  It also has twice as much vitamin C as well as other key antioxidants.  I think of vitamin and mineral supplements as the extra “shields” and “assistants”  in keeping our body strong and healthy.  Why not have ones that have a lot of flavor and are so easy to take at home or on the go?

Facts about these chewables:
⚫ Contrary to popular belief, Emergen-C® does not in any way help prevent, treat or cure colds, flu or any other illnesses. Please don't mention anything related to cold or flu season when you share!
⚫ Emergen-C® does not "boost" or "enhance" your immune system, but it will help provide support for your immune system. Support is the key word!
⚫ Emergen-C® does not give you energy. Stick to coffee for your energy needs :)
⚫ Emergen-C® Chewables are suitable for people aged 14 and over... so have fun sharing!

You can check out the whole line of Emergen-C products here!

The Sorcery Code by Dima Zales~A Thomoson Review (Kindle Edition)

I received a free copy of this book, in exchange for an honest review.
I love reading for the main purpose that it can take you so many places and you can learn so many things.  As a child I never really appreciated it.  I actually hated it and dreaded it every time I was asked to do it.  As an adult I really enjoy it and reading different genres.  So when I saw the opportunity to read The Sorcery Code, I thought this would be something that may be fun.  It isn’t the usual type of book that I would read, and it was an E-book with Kindle, which I am slowly learning to use and LOVE!
The book is written in a magical physical realm where sorcerers, soldiers and commoners all live together.  There are ranks through out the land and they don't mingle well.  There are 4 main characters:  Blaise, Gala, Augusta and Baron.  Each chapter takes on a different main character as the main idea of that chapter, rotating thru each of the main characters.  The chapter name is person’s name so you know who the topic of the chapter is.
Meet the characters:
Blaise is a very powerful sorcerer outcast who was shunned when he didn’t agree with the counsel.  He is trying to find a way to make magic accessible to everyone in the land, including the peasants.  In creating an object to make this feasible, he creates Gala.
Gala.  She is a women figure (that Blaise created for his task of making magic accessible to everyone)  he finds so beautiful he names her after his mom Galena (Gala for short).
Augusta was the FiancĂ©e of Blaise but they called it off a few years ago.  She is a sorceress who is now involved with Barson.
Barson, other than Augusta’s lover is a high ranking military leader.  He doesn’t have any magical powers, however he is an amazing fighter.
This book is easy to read but a bit hard to follow.  With the chapters jumping between characters I felt that I didn’t get enough out of each chapter.  At one point I felt as if I was reading the second book and missed the first, event though I felt this book does introduce you to the characters as a first book would.  It is filled with magic and action.  This book wasn’t what I would typically jump to read.  I thought it was a good book, but not a great book.  Listed as a Fantasy book of Magic, Romance, Danger and Intrigue I would have to say for me it fell short on intrigue park. I would recommend it to someone who likes this genre, however not as an introduction to the genre.
#SorceryCode You can check out this book at http://www.amazon.com/Sorcery-Code-Fantasy-Romance-Intrigue-ebook/dp/B00HB8TGVS
